Senior Analyst Programmer working in a small team developing and rolling out "Rosetta", a data warehouse containing product and sales information. A daily load process maintained this warehouse, which took extract files of previously polled store sales data from AS400 machines. The data was imported into a source area, a staging area and finally a main storage area arranged in a starflake configuration. The users had access to the data via the Information Advantage Decision Suite tool set - this is a relational OLAP query tool that has its own dedicated server between the PC and the database server. The size of the data warehouse was about 240 Gigabytes but was forecast to exceed a Terabyte within the next few years.
- Mapped data from source to target for new data areas.
- Developed the various back end loads and validation modules for each of the data streams.
- Developed some of the controlling functions.
- Developed the house keeping functions.
- Carried out some rudimentary DBA tasks in creating new databases to assist the resident DBA.
- Produced reports using temporary aggregations to supplement the front end user interface.
